The Mog Log: Back in the high life again
The good news is that both Final Fantasy XI and
Final Fantasy XIV should be back online as of
Friday. (I'm writing this on Thursday, so watch
some last-minute wrench get tossed into the
works.) The bad news is... well, really, that's
all the news over the past couple of weeks. While
the team has been working, it seems like
improving a video game hasn't been at the top of
anyone's priority list in the wake of the
earthquake and subsequent devastation.
If I hadn't made this clear enough last week,
that's pretty much the only reasonable response
to what's been happening. It's astonishing that
anyone has even been going on and working on the
games, much less actively keeping players up to
date about the status of the servers.
There's the distinct chance that you weren't able
to log in as soon as the servers went live again
yesterday, and even if you did, it was mostly a
matter of checking back in and lounging for a few
moments. So let's take a look at some of the ways
to re-acquaint yourself with the games.
Get back to basics
One of the best elements of both Final Fantasy XI
and Final Fantasy XIV is flexibility. You don't
need to create a new character to enjoy the
starting game again, nor do you have to make
another one each time you want to try a new
class. So take advantage of that fact and start
playing something you've never tried before, from
level 1 on up.
Maybe you unlocked an advanced job an eternity
ago and just never bothered leveling it. Maybe
you can craft a fine weapon or crafting tool for
a discipline you hadn't bothered exploring. Or
maybe you have none of the above and would be
stuck just like any other level 1 schlub, without
any special toys to set you apart. The thing is,
that's where the magic started for you.
Seriously, would you have kept playing if there
weren't something magical about hunting rarabs in
Ronfaure?
Usually there are endgame pressures and a
leveling curve and so forth to keep you focused
on the more important issues rather than just
playing around in starter regions. But if there's
one thing the shutdown has forced everyone to do,
it's take a break from the pressure of HNMs and
Abyssea and so forth. (Or from the higher-end
faction leves in FFXIV, although that's not as
regimented a progression system at the moment.)
You won't be under any pressure this time around,
and you'll be free to just enjoy the game again
on your own terms.

| the prologue all the way up through wherever they are in Volume III | |||||
|
Volume II solofication One word: heck yes! Well, it is one word when I say it, kind of a "heckyessss!" In any case, I do know I haven't been alone in clamoring for a revamp to Volume II like the one the team gave Volume I, and it is great to see Turbine come through on this. The epic storyline's always been one of the key features of the game, so it was disappointing to get stuck on fellowship-level chapters because you could not discover a group. Nobody likes reading a lovely book and being told that he cannot go past chapter 5 unless he finds three other people reading the same book at the same place. Volume III, Book 3 silkroad
gold So now soloers ought to be able to go all the way through the epic storyline, from the prologue all the way up through wherever they are in Volume III. And, of work, they can do it whether they are subscribers or free players. And for those of us who have made it to the current stopping point of the epic storyline, this update keeps the lovely times rolling with Book 3. Continuing the story of the slowest road trip south ever, Book 3 keeps the Rangers in Enedwaith as they inquire in to a library or somesuch. Also, there may be echoes. OF THE DEAD. But seriously, new books in the epic storyline are always the first things players demand with any new update, so bully for Turbine for including it. The tales get better and better as they go along, and I cannot wait to see what Isengard brings. Monster Play updates I have never been in to the PvMP side of the game, but I do know that those who are always feel that Turbine gives short shrift to PvMP, and they definitely crave more, more, MORE! With Echoes of the Dead, Turbine's implementing a two- pronged approach to getting more people in to LotRO's PvP. It is providing additional incentives for Freeps to join in the battle and is also helping new Creep players by buffing up their characters and explaining the systems a bit better through an improved tutorial. This all is not to tug at my interest and pull me over to the Ettenmoors, but I must get past my own self-interest to recognize that there's plenty of players who dwell here exclusively and have been dying for improvements. So enjoy your Middle-earth pillow fight, PvMPers! Legendary Item changes All in all, I heartily applaud this. LIs ought to be a blessing, not a curse, and it looks as though this update is a sure step in the right direction. As chilled as the Legendary Item system is -- and I firmly think it is an excellent addition to the game -- it did need an attentive hand to fix a few parts that have been cruelly broken since Mines of Moria's launch. Happily, with Echoes of the Dead, players will have much more control over shaping their LIs by being able to pull off and replace legacies in order to make the item you wanted in lieu of rolling the grind dice and hoping against the odds.

| Each player will be able to level up three separate crafting branches | |||||
|
Crafting perfection Of coursework, Update 9 is over a public service announcement about medical science gone awry. It is also introducing a feature that DDO's lacked for years now: crafting. While high-level players have been able to assemble armor before this point, a true crafting process is coming to the game with this patch. Each player will be able to level up three separate crafting branches -- elemental, divine & arcane -- in order to disassemble semi- useless gear & forge the weapons & armor ideal for his character. Players will use a deconstruction tool located in House K's new crafting hall to pull one effect off of an item so that it can be applied to a different item. As Fernando Paiz explained it, you have the choice of saving an item's level (such as +5), its prefix ("Vorpil"), the base item itself (bastard sword), or its suffix ("of Maiming"). The higher the item's level relative to your crafting skill, the greater your chance to fail in either deconstructing or constructing it (& the greater the XP you'll get as a reward, ). Status & perfection Paiz said that the crafting process coming with Update 9 is the first iteration of the feature; another significant revision will come later on, perhaps with Update 11, he said. Sorcerers will be able to become Savants in one of the elemental schools of magic, such as chilled, acid or wind. An Elemental Savant gains a free cast ability from that school (which means you can cast it as lots of times as you need for no spell points) & increases the effective level for every spell in that school by three. The caveat to this, however, is that any spells from the opposing school (such as fire & water) will suffer a three-level debuff to all of those spells, rendering them far weaker than normal. Sorcerers & Favored Souls have a reason to rejoice with Update 9, as both classes will finally get status enhancements & in doing so will join the remainder of the classes in the game. Status enhancements are class specializations that come at levels 6, 12, & 18, in case you meet the requirements, & they can significantly change & expand your character's abilities. Over in the Favored Soul camp, the class ought to become even more desirable as a team player with the Divine Avenger enhancement. Kind of following in the footsteps of a Paladin, the Divine Avenger offers an array of buffs & debuffs that can be applied & transferred between party members & mobs. In this, the Favored Souls will show their colors as an excellent support class. Paiz was also excited to mention a number of the smaller but no less nifty features. For starters, both the Sunder & Trip skills now have matchless animations that weave in to the combat flow perfectly. The update also includes a handful of additional cosmetic armors for the store, including three new designs. Finally, Paiz was happy to burble on about special challenge instances that introduce a different type of repeatable dungeon with minigame-like events. One of the first ones will send players scurrying to collect a whole bunch of items using mouthy Kobolds as tools.

some details, then to conjecture what the
fabulous game might bring us.
All in all, it is a brilliant game which can make
you have a brilliant game experience together
with your heart afire. OK! Let's enjoy the sense
of high speed seeking & hiding driving.
The short video chiefly shows the seeking &
hiding driving scenes happened in the game.
Criminals drive the automobile up & down passing
through the street, lanes & even stairs. Because
it is a beta building mode, the automobile driven

Of coursework, you need to make definite the people you are speaking to are actually controlled by other players! With that said, NPCs can be handy for adding detail to picturesque screenshots such as today's RIFT screenshot from Rob, who writes in: "I've played multiple characters since the first closed beta of RIFT. This is a screenshot of my Dwarf Mage hanging out at Mercury college. I thought I'd plop down next to these students. They don't appear impressed by me."
